Haley Beech (she/her)
Postdoctoral research fellow (co-advised by Craig Hawker)
Ph.D. Chemical Engineering / Massachusetts Institute of Technology
B.S. Chemical Engineering / University of Minnesota
Research:
I am interested in synthetic functionalization and processing optimization for polymer compatibilization and ion-conduction applications, as well as the physical characterization of these materials to better understand the underlying physics.
Bio:
I grew up cross country skiing through the frozen forests of Minnesota before attaining a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Minnesota. While there, I researched the phase behavior of di-block copolymer blends with Prof. Frank Bates. I moved east for a Ph.D. in chemical engineering under the guidance of Prof. Bradley Olsen at MIT where my research was focused on relating single polymer chain behavior and topology to macroscopic properties in polymer networks. I then headed to the opposite coast where I began a postdoc at UCSB co-advised in the Segalman and Hawker groups in September 2023. When I’m not in the lab, I’m probably outside running, hiking, doing beach yoga, or reading a book in the sun.
